Jon Kenny
Is from Hospital, County Limerick. He began his theatre work with John and Jean Regan at THEATRE OMNIBUS in Limerick. On Stage he has played in The Salvage Shop with Red Kettle, The Year of the Hiker and Stonepickers by Peter Gowen and Under Milk Woodwith Island Theatre Company.
Jon Began writing and performing comedy on DAVIS AT LARGE on RTE and has written and performed comedy several solo comedy shows including Have a nice Day and Its my Shout which became the biggest selling video in Irish history. He has also performed with Sharron Shannon and The Roaring Forties. His version of Spancil Hill charted in Ireland.
He was one half of the famous Irish comic duo d'Unbelievables with Pat Shortt. They toured until 2000, creating several sell out stage shows One Hell of a do.I Doubt it Says Pauline, That’s Life and releasing a number of best selling videos: One Hell of a Video, D'Unbelievables, D'Video, D'Telly, D'Mother and D'collection
John stopped touring after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. He has since made a successful recovery and still performs shows across Ireland.
He is best known outside Ireland for appearing in Father Ted (as Michael the cinema owner) in The Passion of St Tibulus and as presenter Fred Rickwood in Song For Europe. He also played the role of Monsieur Thénardier in the 1998 film version of Les Misérables.
On Film he has appreared in Mrs Browns Boys D’movie, also The Break and All Washed up.
Since 2014 Jon has been playing the Title role in John B Keane’s THE MATCHMAKER he received great acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at Assembly 2014 and the show is still in demand. Currently he is adapting John B Keane’s The Successful TD with Mary McEvoy and Michael Scott.
With Shoestring Theatre Company he played Bull McCabe in The Field for which he received rave reviews and also in Sive. In 2014 he played in She Stoops To Conquor at the Abbey Theatre.
